There are so many reasons by which a gardener can grow peas in their gardens full of vegetables. Peas are delicious to eat and they are full of vitamin A, B and C. they are easy to cultivate and grow because they are even snow and frost tolerant. In fact cool and chilly weather is required by the peas for growth and they cannot thrive in hot summer time. There are three types that a gardener can grow in his garden. These include English garden peas, edible-podded peas (snow peas) and southern peas (black eyed peas).
The planning of the peas should be carried out in the full sunlight and this should be done as soon as the ground can work the spring. If you grow them in shady areas then the flavor of the peas may be different and they may have low content of sugar. If you have the soil that dies quickly you must harvest your peas early but if you have slow drying soil you can make raised beds that will hasten the germination of your pea’s plant. You must remember to mix fertilizer and dried out manure into the pea’s plant to boost its germination.
You must avoid hoeing profoundly around the peas as the roots of the plants are very sensitive and delicate therefore they may get ruptured very easily. Most varieties of the peas may even get ready in between 55 to 80 days. The collection time of the peas should be in the morning after the evaporation of the dew and when the pods area is the crispest. Use pinch off pods and scissors for the harvesting purposes and make sure you do not damage the pea vines as they are very brittle. You must pick the garden peas when the pods are round and full.
You may have various problems while gong peas if you maintain good garden hygiene. Pea’s aphids may attack the young pea plants but can be killed by washing the plants with soapy water. Slugs may attack tender vines of the peas and use of slug bait can prevent your peas from these pests. Mosaic can be sped by aphids also and they may make the plant look stunted and undeveloped thus controlling these aphids may help significantly. Fusarium wilt can be caused by that fungus that live in soil and may cause the leaves to turn yellow and they may also cease the growth of the plant as well. |
